A row over the ending of a street cleaning contract in Callosa de Segura has seen the local police ticket two sweeping vehicles, who they said were not in a roadworthy condition and were running without the latest ITV certificates.
The council have given notice that they were to end their contract with the SIREM company, who though still obliged to provide a service until the end of their contractual period, put (according to the council) two “sub-standard” vehicles into action.
The sweepers, besides having no current ITV certificates, had a flat tyre and a broken windscreen, according to the local police inspections. The council and police have agreed to monitor the state of the vehicles and any potential contractual breaches from the SIREM company that may end up forming the basis of any future legal action.
