The Murcia regional government has a created a special committee to look at the economic effects on Brexit, in the first such move by any of Spain’s regions. The UK market was the second biggest in the world for Murcia’s products last year totalling around 956 million euro in sectors like fruit and vegetables, as well as textiles, and, of course, tourism.
Murcia’s economic development, tourism, and employment minister, Juan Hernández, said that the committee would look to defend the interests of regional businesses and to mitigate any negative effects that might happen as a result of Brexit.
