Two people have died and another eighteen have been affected, five of whom are under observation in Torrevieja hospital, after an outbreak of gastroenteritis in a nursing home in Guardamar de Segura.
The alert was raised on Friday evening when staff at the centre informed the emergency services that the two women, aged 75 and 85, had died. Medical teams then took five others, a 93-year old woman, two aged 82, and two men aged 88 and 72 to hospital, where they remain under observation.
An investigation has begun at the centre to ascertain if the outbreak had been caused by possible food poisoning or if it is of viral origin.
