The widow of the late CAM bank chairman was found shot dead in her car in Alicante City last Friday. The National Police found the body of 72-year-old  María del Carmen Martínez inside a top-of-the-range 4×4 vehicle parked on the indoor forecourt of a car dealership.

The victim was the widow of Vicente Sala, the deceased ex-chairman of the Caja de Ahorros del Mediterráneo (CAM) bank, which was bought out a few years ago by Banco Sabadell.

Sala’s wife had been shot in the head, but police have ruled out suicide. At present, they believe it to have been an aggravated robbery, but nobody has as yet been arrested.

Her funeral took place on Sunday and was attended by high-profile business leaders from around Alicante Province, including the president of the Mercadona supermarket chain, Juan Roig.
