A couple from Derby have broken the 12 million passenger barrier at Alicante-Elche airport for 2016, when they touched down last Friday, after arriving on a Jet2 flight from the East Midlands. Terence and Lesley Kilmartin were travelling to the Costa Blanca on a winter break and were surprised to hear that they had become record breakers.
When they disembarked from their plane, they were presented with free flights for a year from Jet2, as well flowers and greetings from airport staff, led by manager Santiago Martinez-Cava. It’s been the best year ever for passenger figures at Alicante-Elche airport since it opened in 1967, with a 17 percent rise in numbers, with five million of those coming from the UK.
