A 51-year-old British man died on Wednesday after suffering multiple injuries in a climbing accident in the north of Alicante Province. The unnamed climber died after falling some 40 metres on a hill in the Polop area, in a section known as Racó de Tovaines.
He was with a companion (pictured on the extreme right) when a rope broke, and he called in emergency services who used a helicopter to take the 51-year-old to Benidorm fire station, where he was treated by a SAMU ambulance team, who managed to stabilise his condition. Unfortunately, he suffered a cardiac arrest during his transfer to the Marina Baixa hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
