Two children and an adult were freed by the authorities, who discovered that they were coerced into asking for money in Orihuela, and were kept as a virtual prisoners in a local house. Any money they got from begging had to be handed over to their Bulgarian masters, and their documents like passports were taken away from them. Any thought of trying to leave was countered with violence.

The gang, three men and two women aged between 40 and 55, would get people and their families to come over via bus from Bulgaria, and they would be picked up in Murcia, and then transferred to their Orihuela base.
