San Fulgencio council has been ordered by Madrid officials to suspend the tender for the municipality’s rubbish disposal and street cleaning contract, after two applicants complained about the specifications of the contract.
Now the council, under the Partido Popular mayor, Carlos Ramiréz (pictured), has opted to restart the whole tender process, with the authority claiming that the document had been drafted by somebody who “no longer works there”.
The socialist PSOE opposition councillor Alejandro Sampere, slammed the “ridiculous” requirements of the original tender.
Waste disposal services in San Fulgencio have not been contracted since 2012, with nearly four million euros spent over the last six years on extending an old deal with franchise holder Ginssa.
