Thirty-two protected animal species were discovered in Torrevieja last year according to the council’s environment councillor, Fanny Serrano. Most prominent of the finds was a Royal Python that was probably abandoned having been kept as a pet, and was discovered by Guardia Civil agents in the  IES Mediterráneo urbanisation. Twenty-four birds, including owls and an eagle, dominated the list.
