Murcia in Political Showdown
Murcia’s underfire Partido Popular President, , Pedro Antonio Sánchez (pictured left), could be forced out of office after the Ciudadanos party pulled out of their coalition with the PP.
Antonio Sánchez is currently being investigated by the National Court over corruption claims under Operation Punica, and had to answer questions from a judge on Monday over use of public finances for an auditorium in Puerto Lumbreras when he was mayor there.
The PP can now only command 22 votes in the 45-strong Murcia Assembly chamber, with the President refusing to resign after meeting with Ciudadnos leader Miguel Sánchez(pictured right) yesterday. Ciudadanos pulled the plug on their arrangement, leading to speculation that they could combine with the other non-PP parties to force out Antonio Sánchez by calling a vote of no confidence.
