Elche council claims that they are beginning to get the upper hand against the red weevil which has been decimating the city’s famous palm trees in recent years.
Parks and Gardens councillor Antonio García says that the amount of trees having to be chopped down has fallen by 60 percent over a year, and that the number of trees infected in the iconic El Palmeral area has dropped from 423 in 2015, to 299 last year.
