Eight new cars are to be leased by Orihuela’s local police over the next three years at a cost of 380 thousand euros.
The Nissan Qashqai vehicles come with a full maintenance deal, and three of the cars will be based in the Orihuela Costa area. The vehicles were paid on display at Orihuela City’s Plaza del Carmen and inspected by local dignitaries including Mayor Emilio Bascuñana.
The Orihuela police fleet will remain at 21, with the new vehicles replacing cars that have had their leasing contracts come to an end. Some vehicles continue to be owned by the council, and are now aged up to 15 years.
Those cars based on the Orihuela Costa will also be able to take advantage of improved communications that will be installed in an area which has offered poor or non-existent “walkie-talkie” coverage for officers.
