Climber Killed in Callosa
A 33-year-old runner died on Saturday morning when he fell from the top of the Sierra de Callosa de Segura. The athlete from Elda had sent his wife pictures via his mobile phone at around 9.00 am, but when she had not heard from him three hours later, she got in touch with authorities to report his disappearance.

Guardia Civil patrols and a fire team from Orihuela then launched a search, and a helicopter spotted the man’s body an hour later at Cueva de la Luna. Such was the difficulty of accessing the area, it wasn’t until three hours later that the helicopter was able to winch the body, and subsequently land at a local sports field. where relatives identified the man.
The Guardia Civil in Torrevieja have launched an inquiry into what exactly may have happened.
