A leading ex-councillor in Pilar de la Horadada could face six years behind bars over bribery and corruption charges, as he tried to force a businessman to give him a car worth up to 30 thousand euro in exchange for a municipal contract.

Pilar’s former health and fiestas councillor, Francisco Javier Lara, is in the dock at the Provincial Court in Elche accused of dodgy dealings with the businessman between 2011 and 2012, who refused to bow down to his demands.

In the end, he recorded a conversation between himself and the Partido Popular councillor at the town hall, which is part of the evidence being used in the case.
