The northern town of Avilés is a potential world record breaker by staging what they claim is the biggest-ever street dinner on Monday. A group of notaries acted as witnesses for the Guinness Book of Records, with 11,836 diners partaking of a meal at the food fair held at the Asturias Province town.
The record set by Avilés smashed the previous holder, Metepec in Mexico, which attracted just under nine and a half thousand diners, with last Monday’s lunch in Avilés lasting just 45 minutes. Documentation will now be sent to the Guinness Book of Records in the hope of having the meal officially ratified as a world record.
