One of the three cyclists who being treated in intensive care after being hit by a driver who tested positive for alcohol and drugs has died after four days of treatment.
José Antonio Albi, who was just 28 years of age, was operated on for head injuries to try to reduce neurological pressure. Meanwhile, two other cyclists remain in the ICU fighting for their lives.
The driver ran over five cyclists at the weekend and tested positive for alcohol and drugs. Her licence had already been withdrawn four years ago after testing positive for blood alcohol and failed to take the mandatory course required to revalidate the licence.
Raúl Ruedas, the lawyer for the defence, has said that his client was “in a state of shock” and was surprised when the Guardia Civil told her what she had done, as she didn´t remember anything.
