Catalan Police have arrested a 26-year-old Colombian national for crimes against road safety after she ploughed into a group of cyclists in the Riudoms area of Tarragona.
The incident occurred at around 07:15 in the morning on the T-704 road when the vehicle being driven by the woman invaded the opposite side of the carriageway running into the group of six cyclists, three of whom were injured in the collision, one of them seriously.
The woman, who lives in Reus, had only recently obtained her driving licence and therefore is subject to a lower maximum permitted limit of alcohol. Having helped the injured at the scene, the officers then carried out a breathalyser test which reported the woman to by four times over the prescribed limit.
This latest incident comes less than a week after a group of cyclists were hit by another car, killing three of the group.
