The Guardia Civil in Lugo stopped a cyclist on the LU-120 main road and found that the rider was 4 times over the legal maximum permitted limit.
The incident occurred last Tuesday when the officers were involved in a routine checkpoint and observed the cyclist approaching in an “erratic and irregular” manner.
There suspicions led to a breath test, which revealed that the cyclist was 4 times over the maximum permitted limit.
The severity of the case is classified as a “very serious” infraction, with a penalty of 1,000 euro, although on this occasion the rider’s only immediate concern after the test was to walk to the nearest bar for a drink.
Remember, when cycling, riders are governed by the same rules of the road as any other vehicle. This of course includes laws relating to the consumption of alcohol and drugs, as well as all other rules.
