Increase in Domestic Violence Complaints
According to figures released by the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) on Monday, Spanish courts received a total of 42,689 domestic violence complaints in the second quarter of 2017, representing an increase of 18%.
Of the 42,689 complaints, 40,366 were women, although there has also been an increase in the number of males coming forward to report abuse.
The Baleares, Murcia and Valencia are above the national average of complaints, whereas Castilla y León, Asturias, Cantabria, Galicia and the Basque Country are all statistically below the average number of complaints.
