Skateboards may be permitted to be used on pavements, bicycle paths and other pedestrian areas of the city of Madrid, according to the final draft of the new Sustainable Mobility Ordinance, which will be approved on Thursday by the Government Board.
The document, whose main points were already announced last February, allows skateboards to travel under the same rules as skates and scooters without motors, since in the initial proposal of the ordinance its use was exclusively for sports, which meant it was restricted and limited to specifically designated areas.
“They will be able to go on the pavements at the pace of the pedestrians, who will always have priority, they will not be able to do jumps or acrobatics,” municipal sources point out, however, for skateboards restrictions may be established for safety reasons on specific routes, for example, on bicycle paths that have a steep slope.
