The entire rescue operation lasted for 6 hours and required excavators to dig a hole to access the cat, and the disabling of lights and electricity in the area.

A neighbour raised the alarm at around 12:30 on Saturday, reporting hearing meows but couldn´t determine where they came from.

When the fire fighters arrived they discovered the kitten in an underground pipe, resulting in the digger being used to create a large hole around the pipe to allow access, before being taken out, a little stressed but otherwise unaware of the actions taken to gain access, but happy to have been released.

The kitten was taken to the fire station in Torrevieja before being collected by an animal rescue team from San Pedro del Pinatar.
