Truck Crash Closes Elche Motorway

An articulated truck, loaded with melons, overturned, crashed and burst into flames, blocking the A7 motorway in the area of the Elche university.

The incident occurred at around lunchtime on Wednesday, resulting in the truck blocking the entire motorway in one direction.

Footage and images from the scene showed the cab of the truck on fire and help being rendered to injured parties by the roadside.

Despite the dramatic images, nobody was seriously injured in the crash, the two occupants of the truck escaping before the blaze took hold.

An investigation is being carried out to ascertain the cause of the crash, whilst fire fighters tackled the blaze, officers from the Guardia Civil traffic department worked through the afternoon to try to get the motorway reopened to traffic as soon as possible.
