A special operation to improve traffic flow will be taking place throughout the weekend, with all available traffic officers on duty to assist. There will also be an increase in speed and alcohol and drugs checks, with officers on the ground supported by the DGT´s helicopters and drones.

Here are the anticipated hot times when it would be better to avoid driving, so as to avoid the busiest times.

Friday, August 17, 2018: being a normal working day, the time of the displacements will start at 15:00, which also coincides with the start of the special campaign, with departures from large cities starting to get busy. Traffic will also be busy from mid afternoon and until midnight in coastal areas.

Saturday, August 18, 2018: Queues are expected between 08:00 and 15:00 at the exit of the urban centres and access roads from the coastal areas.

Sunday August 19, 2018: The access roads to the coast, beaches and retail areas during the morning will be particularly busy. However, the problems will begin in the afternoon with the return of those who have enjoyed the weekend and their vacation days at the entrances to large urban centres. The most unfavourable time will be from 06:00 to 12:00.

If you do have to travel this weekend it is best to avoid the busiest times, allow plenty of time for your journey, remember to take plenty of breaks if going long distance, and obey the law, including speed, maintaining a safe distance and avoiding alcohol, drugs and distractions.

Have a safe journey.
