Orihuela Parents asked to Shop Local
The Department of Commerce and ACMO retail association in Orihuela (Alicante) are asking parents to consider supporting local businesses when purchasing supplies for this year´s “Back to School” campaign.
The campaign is more about supporting smaller, local businesses, rather than the geographical constraints of the municipality, which of course hosts one of the largest retail complexes in Europe, the Zenia Boulevard.
Councillor for Commerce, Miguel Angel Fernandez, and the Asociación de Comerciantes del Municipio de Orihuela (ACMO) trade group, presented their campaign to support local shops, which will run until the end of September.
“Again, this year, we want to remind citizens that the traders of Orihuela are always there for them,” said the councillor, continuing, “local commerce has everything necessary to face this important moment for the families of the municipality,” when residents of the municipality can, “help the environment when making the necessary purchases, and help the Oriolan trade”.
During the campaign, there will be a prize competition in which 50 euro in vouchers is up for grabs, and street entertainment is being arranged for special shopping nights to be held on Friday 14 and Friday September 21.
Despite this particular campaign being from Orihuela, the same notion could be applied to all municipalities, where parents are able to support local businesses by spending a little bit of extra time in the smaller shops, rather than a quick visit to larger supermarkets of chain stores.
