The latest incident occurred on Friday morning in Zaragoza, when rescuers were called to a vehicle on calle Monsterio de Siresa, according to the emergency services.

The mother of the baby had exited the vehicle and walked to the boot in order to remove the pushchair. When she then tried to open the doors to take the child out she found that they were locked, with both the baby and the keys inside.

The mother had said that the doors to the car were locked automatically, and that she was therefore unable to open the vehicle as the keys were inside.

The woman immediately called the 112 emergency services who sent fire fighters to the scene. The baby was being comforted by his mother at all times, and was seen to be in good health when the fire fighters arrived, and so they chose to try to open one of the doors of the vehicle, rather than smashing a window.

One of the rescuers managed to get one of the windows of the car down, and after more than half an hour, at around 11.50, they managed to open the vehicle.

This is the second case in a week, the previous one being in Santander, when fire fighters were forced to break a window to free a baby girl.

Luckily, the events in Zaragoza and Santander had a much happier ending than the one that occurred in the city of Madrid at the beginning of the month, in which a one-year-old girl died after spending several hours locked in the vehicle after an oversight the child’s father.

That tragic death was the second in a few months in Spain in similar circumstances. On August 10, in the Mallorcan town of Manacor, another 10-month-old baby died after spending several hours locked in the car in the sun after being forgotten by her grandfather.
