Ana Pastor mediates in conflict over works on Panama Canal expansion project

06/01/2014. The Spanish Minister for Public Works, Ana Pastor, announced in Panama on Monday, 6 January, that a rapprochement has been achieved between the parties involved in the works to expand the Panama Canal. The parties “are going to sit down, talk and open dialogue to try and resolve the problems”. Furthermore, she stressed that the GUPC consortium has committed to ensuring that all claims are made through contractual channels.

Spain assumes presidency of ?5+5 Defence Initiative? for 2014

01/01/2014. 2014 will be the first year that Spain assumes presidency of the ‘5+5 Defence Initiative’. The tenth anniversary of the initiative will also be celebrated this year, which was set up on 21 December 2004 by the Defence Ministers of Algeria, France, Italy, Libya, Malta, Mauritania, Morocco, Portugal, Spain and Tunisia with a view to developing multilateral cooperation between their countries and aimed at fostering security in the Western Mediterranean.

Spain condemns attack on UNAMID in Darfur

30/12/2013. Spain regrets the deaths of two peacekeepers– a Jordanian officer and a Senegalese soldier –while on patrol in the area of Greida (Darfur) as part of the African Union – United Nations mission in Darfur (UNAMID), on Sunday 29 December, in an attack carried out by armed individuals.
