PRISON FOR PRANKSTER

A French teenager who videoed himself driving his car from the passenger seat along a Spanish motorway has been given a prison sentence. Eric P was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for two years on condition that he doesn´t reoffend, and was banned from driving for 12 months. The lenient sentence was said to be on account of his immediate acceptance of wrongdoing and voluntarily surrendering to the police.

INFERNO INVESTIGATION

Official sources of the National Police of Alicante have confirmed that the most likely hypothesis being investigated into the death of an Icelandic tourist at Terra Mitica, is a broken seatbelt. However, they are also including the speed of the Inferno roller coaster at the time of him falling from his seat, as well as the weight of the rider as contributing factors.

75,000 ATTEND FESTIVAL

The mayor of Benidorm , Agustín Navarro, has described as “a great success” the sixth edition of the Low Music Festival which was held in the city, attracting over 75,000 young people over the 3 day festival weekend.

LOS MONTESINOS BODY

Police are investigating the discovery of the body of a 59 year old man found last week inside a house in San Juan. A spokesman said that everything seems to indicate that there are no unusual circumstances and the death was due to natural causes.

HABANERAS ROAD DEATH

A 63 year old woman was killed on Saturday evening after being hit by a passenger car on la avenida de Rosa Mazón, in the area between the Habaneras Shopping Centre and Ozone. The incident occurred about half past eight when the woman was crossing the four-lane road.

HIGH LIFE

Agents of the National Police have dismantled a marijuana farm located in a flat in the Murcian village of Torreaguera. Three people have been arrested, two 29 year old Spaniards, bother residents of Murcia and a 26 year old Moroccan with the seizure of 72 cannabis sativa plants weighing 17.500 grams.

MESSI BUSINESS

A Spanish court will push ahead with the prosecution of Barcelona forward Lionel Messi for alleged tax evasion despite a recommendation from the public prosecutor that the charges be dismissed. Although they have denied any wrongdoing, Argentina’s Messi and his father were accused last year of defrauding the Spanish state of more than €4m (£3.1m) by filing false returns for the years 2006 to 2009.

SAFETY FIRST

Of 3000 Irish people surveyed, a third say that they have been robbed while holidaying in Spain. More than one in every 10 (12pc) said they had been pick pocketed while only slightly less (10pc) said they had items stolen from their accommodation. Another one in 10 had their bank card stolen while the same number revealed they were targeted on public transport. Only 3pc said they were mugged or had their passport or bags stolen. However nearly three out of four (72pc) reported they have never been targeted by thieves while on holidays.

A new Facebook Group ‘Keep Entertainment Live on The Costa Blanca’ received over 800 members in the first 24 hours of its creation last week. The group was set up to highlight the problems being faced by many bar owners who are being prevented by the authorities from organizing live entertainment

The 19th City of Torrevieja Tennis Tournament will be held at the Torrevieja Tennis Club from 9 to 17 August. Over 300 players from throughout the region are expected to take part in the event, competing for prizes of up to 2000 euros.

José Manuel García-Margallo meets with Moroccan counterpart, Salaheddine Mezouar

24/10/2013. The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, José Manuel García-Margallo, attended a work meeting with his Moroccan counterpart, Salaheddine Mezouar, on Thursday during the first visit by the latter to Spain. During the course of this visit, Salaheddine Mezouar also attended an audience with His Majesty the King of Spain and a meeting with the President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, and the Speaker of the Upper House of Parliament, Pío García-Escudero.
