MARIANO RAJOY AWARDS RAFAEL NADAL GOLD MEDAL FOR MERIT AT WORK

The medal is awarded for exemplary conduct in the performance of one's work

Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, bestowed the Gold Medal for Merit at Work on the tennis star Rafael Nadal, for his professional career, hard work and dedication.

At an event held at Moncloa Palace attended by the Minister for Employment, Fátima Báñez, the President of the Government recalled that this award is presented in recognition of useful and exemplary conduct in the performance of one’s work.

Mariano Rajoy highlighted that this has also been awarded to Rafael Nadal “for his hard work, the demands he places on himself, his enthusiasm, his balance, his modesty and for having his feet placed firmly on the ground”. In short, the President of the Government added, “for a job well done which has resulted in the great triumphs we are all well aware of”.

The President of the Government summarised the athlete’s career by highlighting that he is only the second tennis player ever to win all the Grand Slams, and that he has won more Roland Garros tournaments than anyone else, nine in total. “I believe that this record will not be broken by anyone in centuries; only he will be able to beat this record”, he said.

He also pointed out that he is the tennis player to have won the most Masters 1000 tournaments ever, he is the best ever clay court player, he has won four Davis Cups and at the Beijing Olympic Games.

The Council of Ministers announced the award of the Gold Medal for Merit at Work back on 23 June 2014. Rafael Nadal was unable to collect the award on the date scheduled for the event as he was recovering after an operation.

For that reason, he collected it on Friday 1 May, to coincide with May Day.
On the occasion of Labour Day, Mariano Rajoy declared that “there are many people in Spain who do not have a job, but things are starting to improve, and I am convinced that this year there will be many people who find a job in Spain and also in the years to come.

At the end of the day, the challenge facing us all is to find a job and then work well, which is exactly what Rafael Nadal has done”.

IN THE WORLD THERE ARE NOW MORE THAN 600 MILLION HUNGRY PEOPLE

Manos Unidas, the Catholic Church Association in Spain for aid, promotion and development of the Third World, has launched a campaign under the slogan “A New World” “Common Project”.

Moreover AMREF, the largest international health organization completely of African origin and management, which name is the acronym for African Medical and Research Foundation, has launched another campaign against infectious diseases.

The AMREF team consists of 850 professionals (97% of them in Africa), working in the offices of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Sudan and South Africa. There are planned, directed, analyzed and performed all the projects that focus on AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and sexually transmitted diseases.

Hunger also is producing real havoc among the population. The most affected area is sub-Saharan Africa. In Somalia the situation is critical. A staggering 925 million malnourished people, according to a report by FAO, the UN Agency for Food, are suffering the consequences of the delay in achieving the first of the Millennium Development Goals: halving the hunger in the world in this year 2015.

Moreover, a recent UN report states that Eastern and Central Africa have a chronic crisis that requires efforts beyond emergency aid. Long-term structural reforms are needed.

In Mauritania “only children eat breakfast, the older have switched from three to two meals a day or a meal”. “But our main problem is water.” The loading and transporting animals must travel about five kilometers to the Gorgol river. The Government has launched an urgent plan to try to ensure food and potable water.

Pope Benedict XVI, in a speech addressed to the 174 ambassadors accredited to the Holy See countries said “with half of what is spent on armaments, we could eradicate hunger in the world.”

“Poverty is a great enemy to human happiness; it certainly destroys liberty, and it makes some virtues impracticable, and others extremely difficult”, said the English writer Samuel Johnson.

EL MUNDO SPORTS SEMINAR IN TORREVIEJA

The mayor chats to Pedro Delgado

The Torrevieja mayor, Eduardo Dolon, took part in a National Seminar entitled “The Impact of Popular Sports in Tourism” on Tuesday, held at the Real Club Nautico of Torrevieja (RCNT) and organized by the national newspaper El Mundo

The seminar attracted a number of notable speakers including the 1988 winner of the Tour de France, and current TVE cycling commentator, Pedro Delgado; Germán Robles, President of the Foundation of Atletico Madrid; Fernando de Portugal, an executive with the Sports Event Company Last Lap, responsible for road race San Silvestre Vallecana which annually attracts over 30,000 competitors, and José Miguel Pina, Director General of the company Moonraker bikes.

The mayor stressed the importance that the city of Torrevieja places on Sports Tourism which, in just two years, has attracted over 16,000 sportsmen and women from a multitude of different European countries.
He said that Torrevieja has one of the best and most complete sports centres in the country, the success of which will always ensure that investment in sport continues to be treated as one of the most important features in improving the quality of life of its citizens.

The mayor thanked Pedro Delgado for his contribution to the forum. He acknowledged the ex cyclist as one of the most successful athletes that Spain had ever produced.

In response Delgado said that he was delighted to see that Torrevieja would be involved as a stage in the 2015 edition of the Tour of Spain, which, as concerns the level of tourist interest, will prove to be a great showcase for the city worldwide.

Torrevieja will launch the ninth stage of the Tour on Sunday 30 August, 168 km from the city to Benitachell. The previous day will see the cyclists arriving from Murcia. It will be a historic weekend marked by a great atmosphere. Inevitably there will be a major influx of visitors to the area, brought by the Vuelta itself, as well as the many thousands who will be in the city spending their summer holidays.

The ninth stage of the race will be the only of the Tour 2015 that will take the cyclists into the Alicante region. Much of the route will take the cyclists along the Costa Blanca coastline showing off some of the very best landscapes in the country.

MARIANO RAJOY “GUARANTEEING EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES IS AN ABSOLUTE PRIORITY”

The President of the Government expressed his outright condemnation of the violence suffered by women all over the world

During his speech at the opening ceremony of the 1st International Congress entitled “The Voice of Women in the World”, organised by AFAMMER, the President of the Government announced that the Council of Ministers will soon approve a Rural Women Empowerment Plan. He also “strongly” condemned the violence suffered by women all over the world simply for being women.

Mariano Rajoy highlighted the fundamental role played by the women who live in the rural environment, six million in Spain. He said that women contribute to the development of social and economic life in rural surroundings, care for the local environment, ensure the success of farming operations and keep villages alive.

Furthermore, he announced that the Council of Ministers will soon approve a Rural Women Empowerment Plan that seven ministerial departments are currently working on. This plan, which is going to develop the provisions of the Strategic Plan for Equal Opportunities, will coordinate rural environment equality policies in a comprehensive fashion for the first time in Spain.

It will “foster entrepreneurship, self-employment and the participation of women in the sustainability of the rural environment”. It will also promote reconciliation and increase the presence of women in executive positions and on the executive boards of farming cooperatives.

The President of the Government stressed that the rural world in Spain does indeed have a future because, besides being the cornerstone of farming life, it is a source of environmental resources that promote other activities, such as leisure, tourism, culture and agro-industrial transformation.

In this regard, Mariano Rajoy said that the Government of Spain “is going to do everything within its power to ensure that the opportunities created there lead to tangible results for everyone”.

Women in the labour market

The President of the Government listed some of the measures adopted by his government to “overcome those problems of unequal opportunities” and “foster the employment of women throughout the country”. He specifically mentioned the tax break for the recruitment of women through positive programmes and actions to improve employability and self-employment.

He said that women account for 46% of National Insurance contributors. Mariano Rajoy is convinced that this figure can be increased and that it will be possible over the coming years to achieve a 50/50 distribution between men and women.

Real equality between men and women

Mariano Rajoy underlined the government’s commitment to achieving real equality between men and women. He explained this is not only “an act of justice, logic and common sense” but that everyone “needs” – men and women – to help generate greater progress and increased well-being.

The President of the Government stressed that “men and women are – through diversity – equally valuable and necessary for building a better future” because “a country is made up of all the people” who live there. In his opinion, this is not a problem of legislation but rather “requires a fundamental change of mentality”.

“We need to progress as a country, with a more balanced, varied and richer outlook; that is the challenge for the future”, he said.

Condemnation of violence against women

The President of the Government expressed his outright condemnation of the violence suffered by women all over the world “purely and simply for being women”. Besides reiterating his “firm and unwavering commitment to the eradication of such violence”, he said that putting an end to this violence is a priority for Spain and a matter of State. In this regard, he sent a clear message to those women who may be suffering abuse: “there is a way out and you are not alone”.

20 million Spaniards in work

In his speech, Mariano Rajoy recalled that “we have lived through a very difficult period” that began to change in 2014 as jobs started to be created and 440,000 people found a job. In 2015, there will be 500,000 more Spaniards in work.

The goal for the coming years, said the President of the Government, is for “20 million Spaniards to be able to work and pay National Insurance”. In his opinion, that goal can indeed be achieved if the economic policy continues unchanged.

Other Speakers

At the opening ceremony of the 1st International Congress entitled “The Voice of Rural Women in the World”, speeches were also given by Rosa Romero, Mayor of Ciudad Real; Carmen Quintanilla, President of AFAMMER (Confederation of Federations and Associations of Families and Women in the Rural Environment); Babatunde Osomethin, UN Deputy Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund; and María Dolores de Cospedal, President of the Regional Government of Castile-La Mancha.

Mariano Rajoy also thanked AFAMMER and its President, Carmen Quintanilla, both for organising the congress opened today in Ciudad Real and their tireless work on reaching the goal of full equality.

NISSAN’S WONDERFUL SPOT IN THE FINAL OF SUPER BOWL: HOW TO BALANCE WORK AND FAMILY?

The Super Bowl 2015 was held on February 2, playing the winner of the AFC with the winner of the NFC. This year the New England Patriots defeated the Seattle Seahawks 28-24, with Tom Brady inspired, broking the record of passes of the legendary Joe Montana and becaming the third quarterback in history to win four Super Bowls.

The commercials issued in the interim are the most expensive in American television, and agencies made original, spectacular and emotional spots that can impact and move an audience of over one hundred million viewers.

Nissan participates in this occasion with an emotional and familiar spot, “With dad”, which tells the story of a professional racing driver, who every weekend wake up in a different city. The spot opens with the birth of his son and the good wishes of the father to share the maximum possible time with his wife and him.

Gradually, as he is winning awards and improving, contacts are moving away, and the wife and son only can talk to him on the phone. His wife felt in the soul his constant distance, but tries to hide it in front of the child. And both see on television every race of the father, not without risks and dangers.

The story deals with the difficult task of parenting when physical absence from home is frequent and prolonged. The good background song (“Cats in the Cradle” by Harry Chapin) is a counterpoint to the efforts of this father who tries to find a balance between work and family. The child grows and, upon reaching adolescence, all he wants is to be “with Dad”, so much he misses his presence in many moments of his life.

Despite all this, the ad transmits a positive message to both involved parties, father and son. A touching message that can be summarized this way: physical distance can be overcomed when there is emotional closeness.
