MARIA AND THE PINK LADIES CHARITY WALK

PINK LADIES CHARITY WALK

Nearly four-hundred walkers took part in this year’s Maria and The Pink Ladies Charity Walk for AECC held on Sunday 2nd June. The walk, themed as “It’s Us against cancer”, was again held in Playa Flamenca, starting and finishing at the promenade under brilliant blue skies and staying like that for the remainder of the fun-packed day. Led by the Torrevieja Pipes and Drums entertainment for adults and children alike kept the majority of the walkers there for the day, to be joined by many more people willing to take part in less strenuous activity.

Entertainment continued soon after the walkers returned and carried on until the evening. Nicki G, Johnny and Ali, Richie Alexander, Sandy and daughter Melanie, Geoff Watts (aka Neil Diamond) and The Cages provided that entertainment, backed up by a performance by Paul Michael that brought the audience to its feet. DJ Snoopy provided sound systems for all of them. Maria would like to thank everyone involved, walkers, entertainers and volunteers, for giving up their time once again for this very worthy cause and suggested that the whole day was the best so far out of the four so far organised.

LOOKING ON THE BRIGHT SIDE OF LIFE

Around 600 students from seven primary schools in the town of San Pedro del Pinatar have experienced a new way of learning English, thanks to the ADAPT association theatre group, which has performed an interactive comedy show entitled “The Bright Side of Life”.

The show has been specially adapted in content, grammar and vocabulary for primary school students so that they can experience the English language as a means of communication and entertainment outside the classroom.

The performances have taken place during the months of May and June in various locations, including the San Pedro Casa de Cultura, and in the schools that have a suitable assembly room.

To complement this activity ADAPT has also provided teaching materials to be used beforehand in the classrooms to help the children’s concentration and understanding during the performance.

ARE YOU PARKED AT SAN JAVIER?

SAN JAVIER

The management team of San Javier Airport has given one month´s notice to the owners of 17 vehicles that they are classing as “abandoned”, amongst which are a BMW, a Volvo, a Renault, a Toyota and several Ford cars, plus a Mercedes 190.

The vehicles are all parked at the airport, and have been for some time, and therefore the notice is given for the owners to collect and remove them, or they will take action to do so themselves.

The resolution states that after the one month period, if the vehicles are not removed, the airport authority will “inform the provincial traffic headquarters for processing by an authorized group as waste”.

So if you have parked at the airport for any length of time, or if you simply can´t remember where you parked, it might be worth checking out this collection, before they are taken away for good, and possibly given to a new, “worthy” home.
