Whilst any number of accidents on the road are too many, according to the Traffic Department (DGT), in the first eight months of 2012 there were thirty fewer accidents in Almeria than during the same period last year.

According to the Dgt in Almería from information provided by the Provincial Traffic Chief, José María Méndez, last year, to August 31 there were 356 accidents with victims requiring hospital treatment. Of those accidents 20 have involved fatalities with 23 deaths, while in 2012 there have been 319 incidents with casualties and 21 fatalities with 21 deaths.

The month with the highest accident rate on roads in the province was June, with 53 accidents, four involving fatalities, while the month with most road deaths in Almeria was August, with eight deaths.
