NEWBORN BABY DEATH INVESTIGATED

Officers from the Guardia Civil are investigating the death of a baby, under mysterious circumstances, which occurred on Tuesday morning in a home located in La Mata.

The incident occurred about 12:50, when a call was received at the 112 emergency centre, reporting the death of a newborn baby.

Officers immediately attended, along with a medical crew of the SAMU ambulance group, where they found a woman who had just given birth after 8 months of pregnancy, and in cardiac arrest.

Eyewitnesses reported to the officers that the woman appeared “calm and relaxed”, despite the gravity of the situation and showed, according to the sources, obvious signs of mental health problems. In addition, the floor on which the incident occurred was in a lamentable state of neglect.

Owing to the unusual nature of the situation, officers began enquiries and considered it possible that the woman may have failed to take any action to save the baby, which would result in the possibility of a crime relating to the neglect of a child.

The woman was taken to hospital to be treated for her injuries, before officers proceeded with the criminal investigation.
