A 45 year old man in has been arrested by the Guardia Civil, on suspicion of killing his 46 year old wife, dismembering her and disposing of her remains through an animal cremation services.

The detainee, originally from Argentina, runs a veterinary clinic in Benijófar, popular with many an international animal owner, and was arrested on Friday, during which time he claimed that he had found the dead body of his wife on Thursday, the 28th or March, inside the clinic where they both worked, and that he believed her death had been caused by a massive intake of medication that was present in the clinic, stating that he believed she had taken her own life.

In his statement to investigators, he also said that he tried for several hours to revive her, but without success, and so, having satisfied himself that the woman was dead and unable to be revived, it is alleged that the man then proceeded to dismember her body, transferring her, in pieces, to the family home in Dolores.

At that point, he is then said to have contacted a company which normally cremates animals sent by the clinic, and many others, stating that he had a large dog that he needed to be incinerated.

On Saturday the 30th of March, the incineration company collected a number of bags containing what they believed to be the remains of a large dog, which they removed and processed without question, as the man is a long serving client.

During the whole time, it is said that the couple´s children had repeatedly asked the whereabouts of their mother, only to be told by their father that she was away, travelling.

The man has been detained by the Guardia Civil to appear before the courts charged with murder.

A sign on the door of the veterinary clinic in Benijófar states that the clinic is “Closed until further notice due to a family bereavement”, accompanied by a request to refrain from telephoning during this very difficult time for the family and friends of a lady who one client described simply as “lovely”.
