A QUARTER CENTURY OF TORREVIEJA MAY FAIRS

It seems that each and every year, the Fair just get better and better.

Torrevieja celebrated the twenty-fifth edition of the May Fair last week. Full of colour, music, gastronomy, drink, dancing and humour, the fair attracted thousands of residents and visitors to what is the largest Sevillanas Fair outside of Andalucia.

One of the contentious additions to this year’s fair was the announcement that Bullfighting would return, however, on Friday evening, this was cancelled along wit the horse show.

For 2012 the fair was given the distinction of Provincial Tourist Interest and this year, it certainly did not disappoint. Evenings at the fair contained performances of song and dance while on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, and estimated 300 horse riders and over 30 carriages circled the fairgrounds

Each evening at 9.30pm a dance school performed, with a main music act taking to the stage at 11.00pm. This year’s big names included Antonio Ferrández “El Torero”, singer Jonathan Pons and finished on Sunday with the Mass Choir and Chorus of the Andalusian Rociero House of Jose Hódar “Rafael Alberti”.

Other performances during the week included Martínez Sancho Dance Academy, Paya’s Flamenco Dance School, Municipal Dance School directed by Professor: Nuria Girona, Maria Dolores Morales Dance School the III Grand Final Couplet Contest “City of Torrevieja” and the Angel Maria Academy.

The May Fair finished last night, Sunday, but for the thousands who visited the show, to be entertained, dine, dance or just soak up the atmosphere, it seems that each and every year, the Fair just get better and better.
