Speed painting

Organized by the Joaquín Chapaprieta Cultural Institute, the city of Torrevieja held it’s 21st ‘speed painting’ contest last week, to which it attracted thirty budding artists.

Everything about the competition was ‘speedy’, all happening on the same day, from initial registration through to the time that artists had to complete and hand in their work together with their attendance at the results and prizegiving ceremony.

Redistration was carried out at 8.30am last Monday morning. Artists then had until 2pm by which time their completed submissions had to be handed in. Each artist was assigned a subject, all themed in and around the ‘City of Salt’ and paintings could not exceed 120 inches.

This year’s winner was Alberto Márquez. He was presented with a first prize of one thousand euro at the Virgen del Carmen Cultural Centre by the Councillor for Culture, Luis Maria Pizana.

Selected works will now be on display in the exhibition hall of the Cultural Center until June 9.
