SPAIN based Sixties Pop Icon Wayne Fontana will be back ‘home’ in the UK this New Year’s Eve in concert at the Amersham Rock N Roll Club – with Chris Farlowe and Vanity Fare. "I’m still doing ‘gigs’," said Villamartin based Fontana – ex-lead singer of Wayne Fontana and The Mindbenders.

Fontana will be on stage this New Year’s Eve with Rock, Soul and Blues artiste Farlowe, 73, who had No 1 hit single ‘Out of Time’ in 1966 and Vanity Fare, whose massive hit ‘Hitchin’ a Ride’ in 1970 sold over one million records. Fontana’s last chart success was in 1967 when ‘Pamela, Pamela’ reached No 11 in the UK. But Fontana, 68, biggest success was ‘Game Of Love’ – which hit No.1 in the American charts. "I was embarrassed when I had the No.1 in America – topping Jerry Lee Lewis and Fats Domino – with Game Of Love," said Fontana. Fontana is also part of the UK’s Solid Silver Sixties Tour, when back in the UK, performing hits including ‘Hello Josephine’, ‘Love Potion No. 9’, ‘Little Darlin’, and ‘Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, Um’.

Looking back to his heyday, Fontana said: "The Everly Brothers were brilliant. "I toured with Frankie Valley and The Four Seasons – Frankie asked me to do a tour in America, which was nice." One regret is not meeting the late Legend Elvis: "I wish I had met Elvis – it didn’t happen. Elvis was a big influence," said Fontana. "My name Fontana was taken from Elvis Presley’s drummer, D.J. Fontana,"

said Fontana – real name Glyn Ellis.

It’s perhaps apt that Manchester born Fontana – whose song ‘Come on Home’ – will be back in the UK this New Year’s Eve. Another hit ‘The Sun’s So Hot Today’ will no doubt be sung when he returns to warmer climes and back to sunny Spain. "I should have moved to Spain years ago! – I love it here," said Fontana.
