An 82 year old resident of Torrevieja, originally from Asturias, lost his life on Torrevieja beach on Monday.
The man is believed to have got into trouble in the water having suffered a stroke and subsequently drowned.
The emergency services attended the scene but could do nothing to preserve his life.
The coroner authorised the removal of the body and transfer to a forensic institution in order for a post mortem examination to be carried out.
