Rainfall Returns to Normal

The hydrological calendar year of 2014 to 2015, which records the rainfall from October the 1^st  to September the 21st, reports that the Valencia region has had “normal” levels or rain for the most part, although there were occasions when the levels were “above average”, with a precipitation average of 520.3 litres per square meter.

Almost half of the accumulated rainfall occurred during the storms of the 29^th and 30^th of November, and from the 18^th to the 24^th of March, with widespread rainfall throughout the region, which were persistent in the province of Castellon and Valencia, thus “bucking the trend” of the previous year which was described as “very dry”.

From September 2014, rainfall began to rise to the normal climate value from March, where the first major storm accumulated 90% of the rainfall for the entire spring season and 30% of the annual amount.

However, the balance has not been equal during the 12 months, as there has been a surplus of rain in 51% of the territory and a deficit in 49%, and in areas such as the coast of the region of La Marina, the accumulated rainfall is not even half of what is normal for the period.

July in the province of Castellon was the warmest since records began in 1911, Valencia was the second hottest since their first record in 1869, surpassed only by 2003, as was the province of Alicante.

As a result, the forecast for the coming months of October to December is above normal temperatures, but below average rainfall, with the predominance of good weather.
