Almost a third of Alicante Province teenagers aged between 13 and 17 have gambled in the last year, according to a survey produced by Elche’s Miguel Hernández university. Nearly three thousand students from 23 schools took part in the survey, with the Vega Baja region said to have the most gambling youngsters.
Based on percentages, around a thousand children across Alicante Province are said to have a gambling problem, with online betting and slot machines their main outlets.
The survey was commissioned by the Alicante Provincial Council who are now planning a series of initiatives across schools and colleges in association with PTA groups next year to educate teenagers about the dangers of gambling.
