Controversial bollards on Torrevieja’s Calle Caballero de Rodas and in adjacent streets that saw mayor, José Manuel Dolón, suffer a series of punctured tyres in 2015, are being removed by the council.
The bollards were put in place seven years ago by the previous Partido Popular administration, with a number of vehicles suffering punctures and damage in the area, as well as pedestrians tripping over them. Dolón had previously claimed that the bollards did not meet the “proper legal requirements “and were an “outrage of the previous PP council”.
The bollards were part of a three-million euro contract award to redevelop the Caballero de Rodas area which was awarded to a company owned by a relative of a now-former PP councillor, with the full project suspended by court order amidst legal wrangling.
