A man died and four people, including a young child, were seriously injured in a Tuesday night collision between a Volkswagen Golf car and a lorry on what is a stretch of straight road. The crash happened at around 7.30 pm on the route linking Orihuela City to the A-7 close to the exit for La Matanza.
The driver of the Golf, who was said to be from the Murcia area, died instantly, whilst his wife and two-year-old son were injured and taken to the Vega Baja Hospital, along with the two people in the lorry.
Fire crews from Orihuela, Almoradi and Crevillent were involved in freeing the man’s wife and child from their car, with the road closed for a number of hours.
