The Cambiemos de Orihuela (Change Orihuela) party has attacked Orihuela council over their priorities for local beaches, after claiming that tons of sand are being moved to protect the privately-owned beach bars, as opposed to taking the whole of the beaches into account.
Cambiemos say that they have pictures of a tractor (La Zenia photographed) being used to move sand to “build a fort” at the beach bar of the Chiringuitos del Sol franchise operator, and they want to know whether Orihuela council sanctioned the work, or actually did it themselves.
The party added that environmental damage had been done, which was either paid for by municipal budgets, or that a private contractor was acting, with or without the council’s approval, “against of the heritage of the beaches”.
