There’s been a major blow to the much-delayed project to convert the N-332 into a dual carriageway around Torrevieja, with the Public Works ministry in Madrid saying that 13 changes are needed to the plans.

Land and layout issues predominate as well as environmental concerns, in addition to the ministry saying that a traffic flow survey from 2007 is inadequate. Torrevieja mayor José Manuel Dolón says the ministry has referred the matter back to the Valencian government who the mayor insists fully back the project, though he admitted the changes would be “difficult”.

Dolón plans to meet Valencia’s Public Works minister, María José Salvador, to try, in his words, to “unblock the paralysed project”. Back in the autumn, Dolón, said that the process to approve the project would start “soon”, and the work would be done as “quickly as possible”. It was though made clear that the green light for the project was subject to an environmental impact report.
