The Maritime Rescue Service was called out to a record number of incidents off the coast of Alicante Province last year.
There were 309 emergency alerts in 2016, with a mixture of incidents involving recreational boats and merchant vessels, in addition to calls to aid surfers, swimmers, divers, and kayakers.
Not surprisingly, 60 percent of the incidents were during the summer season.
