The pilot of a Spanish air force Eurofighter has died after a plane crash when returning from the Spanish National Day celebrations in Madrid.
The incident occurred just after noon near the Albacete Air Base in the area of the La Pulgosa park.
Politicians, dignitaries and the Royals attending the Madrid event have all expressed their condolences following this tragic event.
Captain Aybar failed to eject from his crashing Eurofighter today, as doing so would have meant that the aircraft would have hit an inhabited area.
Instead, he sacrificed his own life to make sure others survived, a final act of bravery that did indeed save others.
Tragically, his wife and child witnessed the crash after watching, with pride, his involvement in today’s celebrations.
