Using the catchy hashtag, #ALMORADÍEDUCAENPREVENCIÓN, Almoradí has started an earthquake education plan which it is sharing through schools and social media in order to prepare everyone in the event of an earthquake taking place.

The councillor responsible for the plan, Susana Miralles, believes that it is important for all residents to be prepared for emergencies, as nobody knows if or when one might strike. The plan was also part of the election plan in the last election, and so is also important for maintaining promises made to the electorate before thie current administration is judged through the next election this year.

The project consists of the training of the teaching staff, the sensitisation of schoolchildren and the involvement of all residents in matters of prevention.

Raymundo Tomás, Head of Training and Prevention of the Fire Consortium explained that this project has begun with the visit to Primary and Secondary schools, so that they, “know their emergency plans and fire fighting facilities, then, during February, they will go to the specific training of the management teams.”

Miralles pointed out that the plan coincides with the anniversary of the devastating 1829 earthquake which destroyed the town and much of the surrounding area.
