The Valencia regional government has allocated 595,000 euro to help eliminate physical barriers in municipal buildings of 25 towns in the province of Alicante.

The aid, to localities of less than 50,000 inhabitants, will be allocated to municipal projects that act on consistorial houses, centres for the elderly and other public buildings such as casas de cultura, sports centres or offices.

The Director General of Local Administration, Toni Such, met with representatives of town councils from the province who will receive the aid in order to explain the procedures, stressing that the initiative aims to eliminate architectural barriers to facilitate access for people with mobility or dependency difficulties to consistories and other municipal facilities, “to make equality effective”.

Municipalities set to gain, so long as the work is carried out before the winter, include Pilar de la Horadada, La Llosa de Camacho, Lorcha, Vall d’Ebo, Gorga, Balones, Daya Vieja, Planes, Benilloba, Murla, Monforte del Cid, El Verger, Algueña, Onil, Rafal, La Romana, Redován, Xaló, Monóvar, Benferri, Tibi, Dénia, Pego, Pinoso and Novelda.

In the whole of the Valencian Community the Regional Government will invest almost 4 million euro in municipal buildings of 119 municipalities and smaller local entities.
