Firefighters of the Prevention, Fire Extinguishing and Rescue Service of the Alicante City Council (SPEIS) worked throughout the early hours of Saturday morning to extinguish a “complicated” and “spectacular” industrial fire originating in a 40,000-litre tank of oil in the Aludium factory, which has not caused injuries, as reported by the consistory in a statement.

The SPEIS received the notice at 0325 hours and seven full supplies from the City Council were displaced to the site of the industrial fire. The fire broke out, for unknown reasons, between two oil tanks. Upon arrival, the troops verified that the fire was protruding from the deck with a blaze of more than 12 metres in height.
The firefighters divided into five teams to start attacking the fire from the top. In total, a Command Post was set up with more than 35 firefighters from the SPEIS, Alicante Local Police and the National Police who were mobilised to coordinate the emergency, and the industrial warehouse was evacuated.
The firefighters have highlighted that this fire has been “very difficult” to extinguish due to the high thermal load and the danger posed by having tanks with thousands of litres of burning oil.
