The Council of Ministers has approved, at its meeting today, the fifth extension of the agreement of the Council of Ministers of February 2, 2021, which establishes exceptional measures to limit the spread and contagion by COVID-19, by limiting flights between the Federative Republic of Brazil and the Republic of South Africa and Spanish airports.
The measure will take effect from 00:00 on April 13 (peninsular time) until 00:00 on April 27, 2021 (peninsular time).
From the Federative Republic of Brazil and the Republic of South Africa, only flights to Spain that are occupied by Spanish or Andorran citizens, as well as residents in both countries or passengers in international transit to a non-Schengen country with a stopover of less than 24 hours without leaving, may be made. the transit area of the Spanish airport.
These restrictions do not affect the aeronautical personnel necessary to carry out air transport activities.
In addition, other exemptions are contemplated relating to flights of State aircraft, search and rescue services (SAR), flights with a stopover in Spanish territory for non-commercial purposes and whose final destination is another country, exclusive cargo flights, positional (ferry ) and humanitarian, medical or emergency.
It is considered that, although it is true that the risk of importing cases from both countries can be reduced thanks to the sanitary control measures applicable upon arrival in Spain, this does not prevent us from continuing to take extreme precautions against the potential for the spread of the Brazilian and South African variants of the virus.
In any case, depending on the evolution of the pandemic and the decisions that may be adopted in a coordinated manner in the European Union, the Ministry of Health may lift, for justified reasons, said limitations.
The agreement is part of the government’s determined action to protect the health of citizens and control the spread of new variants of the virus.
As an exception, they may only be carried out when transporting exclusively Spanish citizens and residents in Spain, in addition to residents in Andorra and their nationals and passengers in international transit to a non-Schengen country with a stopover of less than 24 hours, without leaving the area. transit from the Spanish airport.
