Officers from the National Police have arrested a fugitive in the Valencian town of Puzol, internationally claimed by the Ukrainian authorities, for the alleged murder of two policemen in a demonstration held during the riots that occurred in Kiev in 2013.

Police investigations began last April when it became known, through the Spanish Attaché in Ukraine, that this fugitive could be in the province of Valencia, possibly in the town of Puzol. Due to the seriousness of the facts that he was accused, his highly dangerous profile and the possibility that he could repeat the commission of similar crimes, the investigation was assigned the highest priority.

The steps taken by the agents revealed that the fugitive used to travel regularly by public transport in order not to be detected, finding signs of his whereabouts in different provinces in a short period of time, specifically in Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia. In addition, it was determined that this person had been residing in an apartment in Puzol, where he would have had several rented rooms, changing his place of residence frequently to avoid his location.

With the progress of the investigations, it was learned that he had been residing for several weeks in an isolated cabin located in a remote rural area of the same town. The agents established a discreet device and carried out various procedures that led to the location of the rural cabin in which he was hidden, and he was arrested shortly after, when he was going to a cafeteria.

The events for which he was wanted date back to 2013 during the riots in the centre of Kiev. The fugitive, carrying a rifle and an approximately 60 cartridges, opened fire on the police officers present, killing at least two of them, although the Ukrainian authorities do not know the exact number of officers injured and killed by the action of this individual.
