Spain performs more than 41.2 million diagnostic tests since the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic

The autonomous communities have notified the Ministry of Health that, until May 6, they have carried out a total of 41,297,269 diagnostic tests. Of these, 30,836,976 are PCR and 10,460,293 are antigen tests.

In the last week, from April 30 to May 6, the autonomous communities have carried out a total of 547,710 PCR, an average of 78,244 PCR per day.

In addition, from April 30 to May 6, the autonomous communities have carried out a total of 267,693 antigen tests (38,241 on average per day). Added to the PCR performed, they represent a total of 815,403 diagnostic tests performed in this period, 116,486 per day. Thus, the number of diagnostic tests performed increased by 2%, with a rate of 876.79 for each 1,000 inhabitants.

Progressively, new techniques are being developed for the diagnosis of SARS-Cov2 infection, such as the rapid antigen tests that the Health Departments are beginning to introduce in the management of the pandemic.
